What is the NCLEX
The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is a standardized test designed to assess a candidate’s eligibility for entry-level nursing practice in the United States and Canada.
The exam is administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and is a crucial step in obtaining a license as a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN)/licensed vocational nurse (LVN).
How Many Questions Are on the NCLEX?
The NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN feature a total of 145 questions, including 15 experimental questions that aren’t part of your score. You’ll answer at least 75 questions before the computer determines whether you pass or fail.
How is the NCLEX Scored?
The NCLEX uses computer adaptive testing (CAT) to determine the candidate’s ability level. As the candidate answers questions correctly, the test becomes more difficult.
Conversely, if a candidate answers questions incorrectly, the test becomes less difficult. The exam continues to adjust until it determines the candidate’s ability with 95% certainty or until the maximum number of questions has been reached.
