How Breaks Work During the NCLEX
Understanding the significance of taking breaks during the NCLEX can greatly impact your success in the examination.
It may not be immediately apparent, but incorporating breaks into your study and test-taking routine is essential for various reasons.
How Many Breaks Can You Take During the NCLEX?
You can take as many breaks as you wish during the NCLEX. There is a scheduled break after the first 2 hours, but it’s up to you whether or not to use it. Keep in mind the timer continues running during breaks.
Understanding NCLEX Breaks
During the NCLEX, you’ll encounter two types of breaks: scheduled and unscheduled.
After reaching the 2-hour point in the exam, a screen will prompt you to take a scheduled break if desired.
Once you choose to take it, the test screen goes blank. To exit the room, raise your hand, and a proctor will guide you out.
Another optional scheduled break occurs at the 3.5-hour mark. Just like the first break, this is not mandatory.
NOTE
During all breaks scheduled and unscheduled, the exam time is still running.
How Many Breaks Should You Take on the NCLEX?
It’s essential to consider taking a brief break every hour during the NCLEX.
Though it might not feel necessary, these pauses provide opportunities to stretch, use the restroom, have a snack, or clear your thoughts during the exam.
Avoid going for two hours without stepping out for a break, as it can impact your focus and test performance.
